Give the command to save me. - Psalm 71:3
A few weeks ago, on my way to get a medical procedure done, I got a ticket for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. The cop did not even talk to me - he just went straight to write me a ticket! Plus that was a right turn only intersection anyway! I felt that I really did not deserve that ticket. Then I left town for a while, and by the time I got back, I had two days left before the court day.
I went to see a traffic attorney and he told me that the cop who wrote me the ticket was known to be a jerk with no compassion whatsoever, so the mere fact that I did not stop and now it is the end of the month and they are trying to get enough tickets – all things are NOT to my advantage. So I decided to go in by myself – if I am going to have to pay the fines anyway, why would I still waste money on an attorney?!
I remembered how Paul said that he would just let the Holly Spirit speak and defend him when he was going through trials, so I prayed the same thing, and trusting that no matter whether someone has chosen to believe in God, God still has full control of that person’s mind and behavior, etc. I was at a place where no one else could have delivered me except God Himself.
I bet you would not be surprised with the result – because God is ALWAYS faithful. He said He would never let those who put all their trust and hope in Him to be put to shame, so He will not. In fact, He made a big fool of that “I believe I am so smart” cop. As I walked into the hallway before entering the court, this cop looked at me and said, “You look very pretty today. Now go home.” This appeared to be quite inappropriate (at least in my opinion) since he is at least my dad’s age. Even his younger colleagues were giggling behind him.
At that moment I remembered a verse from psalms, “give the commands to save me” – my Lord has just “given the command” to save me! And He will do the same for you too. There might be a bunch of people around you that are rich and powerful, but faithless. It might never appear that they would have compassion on you. But no matter what they choose to believe, the Lord can COMMAND them to do anything according to His will, and for His glory. Be patient and wait on the Lord. Because He is faithful, we can have hope and be still.
